MARKIEWICZ Mariusz, Konin, Polonia
The author of Jesus Christ proposes a work with a concentrated image of Christ, captured in an attitude of recollection and suffering. The figure is seated, with the body gathered and the head supported by the hand, in a gesture that suggests the pressure of pain, but also the silence of prayer. The chisel marks left visible on the surface do not hide the material, but transform it into expression: the wood seems wounded, and this roughness amplifies the drama of the scene. The massive volume and compact shape give the sensation of a burden carried inside, not of a declaimed tragedy. Placed in the courtyard of the Catholic Church, the work functions as a sign of meditation on compassion, sacrifice and hope.
