2018. Ungheni Sculpture Camp, 7th edition. Travertine

"Little Cluj" Park

Sunrise captures a moment of transition: the exit from darkness into light, the beginning of a new day, but also the beginning of a new meaning. The sculptor works with the contrast between the stone preserved raw, like a heavy mass of matter, and the inner figure, smoothed and clear, which seems to detach from the block, like an apparition.

At the center of the composition we see a stylized female silhouette, her arms raised in a gesture that can be read as opening, elevation or liberation. Around her, the surface of the stone is fragmented into rays and edges, like a controlled explosion of form: the plastic image of light breaking through the shell and making its way.

It is a work about birth and becoming: the figure is not placed in front of the stone, but seems to be born from it. Thus, the sunrise is not just a phenomenon of the sky, but a metaphor for inner awakening—the moment when something takes shape, breaks away, gains verticality. Travertine, with its alternation between raw and finished, supports the idea: from inert matter a living presence emerges, oriented towards light.
