NIȚĂ Nicolae, Chișinău, Republic of Moldova
The shot captures a tense moment, placed before the outbreak of open rivalry: the moment when the confrontation is not yet physical. The artist evokes the stage of the duel in which the opponents measure their strengths, test their limits and project their will onto each other - a state of preparation, of control, of pent-up energy.
From a plastic point of view, this idea is rendered through a vertical, concentrated composition, in which the volumes are simplified to the essential. The upper part, with massive and sharp shapes, suggests the "ends" of the confrontation - two opposing presences, close, as in an imminent but still suspended collision. Instead of demonstrative gestures, the sculptor chooses laconicism: the force is not explained, but suggested through weight, through firm planes, through the tension between the masses.
Masculine virility appears here as a code of attitude: firmness, fierceness, security, but also a discipline of expression. Energy does not "explode", but accumulates. It is precisely this economy of means that gives the work its sobriety and elegance: conflict is treated as a form of architecture of will, built from angles, pressures and unstable balances.
At the same time, the surfaces alternate between smoothed areas and rougher portions, which amplifies the sensation of a "rough" and unyielding character, without losing aesthetic coherence. The viewer thus perceives a sculpture of concentration, not of gesticulation: an image of confrontation as a mental state, in which determination is already present, and the final rupture is only a matter of time.
