Contemporary sculpture "Icon at the Window"

Priest Nicolae Ovidiu, Bucharest, Romania.

Ungheni Museum of History and Ethnography.

The window – the threshold between worlds.

The sculpture is conceived as a window: not a wall, not a door, but an intermediate space.

The window is the place where the inside (faith, intimacy) meets the outside (the world, passage). The sacred is not enclosed in the temple; it looks out onto the street. The figure of the Mother and Child is rendered simply, without drama. It does not dominate the composition, but offers itself to the gaze as a gentle presence. The icon does not demand public worship, but discreet recollection. It is a presence that watches, not judges. The inner arch, slightly colored in blue, refers to heaven, which is not far away; it begins right from the opening of the window. We are witnessing a theology of closeness, not of distance.

The stone in front functions as a bench or threshold. The sculpture invites us to stop. Not to pass by quickly, but to stay. The man is included in the composition through the gesture of sitting, looking, being silent.

The surface of the work is rough, with visible traces of the work, signifying that Faith is not polished; it is lived, touched by time. Thus, the icon is not a museum object, but part of life.

Icon in the window proposes an open faith: not hidden inside, not imposed on the outside. It's that moment when you pass by a house and see an icon in the window - it doesn't force you to believe, but it stops you. To meditate.
