SBITNEV Sergey, Kharkiv, Ukraine
Created in the 2018 edition, the author of the work Three Sisters proposes a clear symbol of the unity of the three Romanian states, transposed into an image of remarkable plastic coherence: three female figures reunited in a single ensemble. The characters are not individual portraits, but idealized faces, constructed as typologies: femininity here becomes a sign of origin, continuity and identity, and the sisters - a metaphor of kinship beyond historical separations.
Compositionally, the three heads are articulated in a common trunk, which affirms the unity of the background, while the different orientations of the gazes suggest distinct destinies and perspectives. This double movement - difference and belonging - is one of the major successes of the piece: individuality is not annulled, but integrated into a solidary structure.
From a formal point of view, the sculpture is distinguished by the clarity of lines, firm profiles and a balanced rhythm of volumes. The contrast between the finished areas of the faces and the rougher texture of the stone activates the tension between nature and culture, between material and form, giving the ensemble expressiveness and gravity. Overall, Three Sisters transforms an identity theme into a universal language: that of kinship and unity.
