Zderciuc Ion, Chisinau, Republic of Moldova.
"Couple" by Ion Zderciuc clearly falls within the artist's defining stylistic direction: a synthesis between figurative and abstract, between organic and symbolic, where form is essentialized to the point of suggestion.
The work presents two forms merged into a single compact volume. Between the two characters, there is a structural fusion: the volumes intersect, support each other and create an almost architectural unity. This fusion suggests the idea of a deep connection, of balance and interdependence specific to a couple. The texture of the stone, intentionally left raw in places, amplifies the expressiveness and gives the work an organic vibration. This approach is typical of Zderciuc, who "spiritualizes matter" and tends towards the generalization of forms and ideas.
The work is almost monolithic, but at the same time open – the viewer is invited to come closer, look at it, examine it carefully, discover the relationship between the volumes from multiple angles. To grasp, to understand that the sculpture is not just a static representation, but a continuous dialogue between forms and forms, between forms and the viewer.
Therefore, through "Couple" the artist left Ungheni a work-expression of human connection and love reduced to the pure language of form.
