The eagle bird

The Eagle Bird was created during the 2018 symposium dedicated to the Centennial of the Great Union, and the choice of motif has a very clear symbolic stake. The eagle, beyond the universal image of freedom, strength and overview, is also the central element of the coat of arms of the unitary Romanian State. This was the impetus from which the author started to construct the work.

From a plastic point of view, the sculpture surprises with the way a large mass of travertine is transformed into a recognizable form: the powerful head, curved beak and attentive eye immediately outline the presence of the bird. At the same time, the artist preserves in places the raw texture of the stone, as if the eagle were emerging directly from the rock - an image of resistance and duration.

The geometric interventions, like cut planes or stylized “wings”, bring a contemporary accent: it is not a naturalistic eagle, but a monumental sign, a symbol. In this way, the work can be read as an affirmation of unity and verticality: a landmark that unites the idea of national identity with the energy of freedom.
