DONOI Parascovia, Chisinau, Republic of Moldova
Prayer is an anthropomorphic work, but without a face. We do not see eyes, mouth, expression. The sculpture of the artist Donoi is not a spectacle, it is not a discourse, but a state. The man disappears as an individual and the inner gesture remains.
The verticality of the work expresses the lifting of weight.
The form rises from a heavy, almost organic base, as if emerging from the earth, or the prayer does not begin in the sky, but in the heavy pain of the body, from below, from fragility.
On the front of the sculpture appears a deep line, almost like a wound or a channel that could be a column, a tear, a road. It is the inner dialogue between man and God. Not decorative, but harsh, silent.
The texture of the stone is meticulously crafted, but still remains rough, restless, which is what the artist wants to tell the viewer that true prayer is not silence, but agitation.
The prayer of sculptor Parascovia Donoi, from the center of Ungheni, does not represent someone praying, but prayer itself as a state. It is that moment when you no longer ask for anything, you no longer explain anything – you stop, sit, think, meditate.
