The sculpture Atavism proposes a return to the archaic condition of man, to a primordial stage of existence in which the being is defined by body, instinct and affect. The human figure, treated synthetically and robustly, refers to an archetype rather than an individual, suggesting ancestral memory inscribed in the shape of the body.

The central gesture – holding a heart in the hands – concentrates the meaning of the work. The heart, symbol of life, affection and vital energy, is taken out from within and exposed as the pure essence of the human. The character does not violently possess it, but protects it, in a ritualistic, almost sacred gesture, indicating responsibility towards the very source of life.

The material, wood, emphasizes the organic and archaic character of the work, establishing a direct connection with nature and the cultural origins of humanity. Atavism thus becomes a meditation on the persistence of fundamental instincts and primal emotion in contemporary man, affirming the continuity between the archetypal past and the present.
