Wooden crucifix with the image of Jesus Christ, which was part of a crucifixion. The piece is carved from linden wood, dating from the beginning of the 20th century. The sculpture is naive but expressive. Discovered in the village of Şoltănești and brought to the museum by the director of the Museum of History and Ethnography in the town of Ungheni - Vasile Iucal in 2020.
Wooden crucifixes of this type are part of an old tradition of religious folk art in rural areas, being made by local craftsmen, often without formal artistic studies. These pieces were placed in cemeteries, at crossroads or near churches, having a protective, commemorative and spiritual role. The naive style, simplified proportions and accentuated expressiveness reflect not a lack of craftsmanship, but an authentic form of faith and devotion, in which the emphasis falls on the religious and emotional message of Christ's suffering, more than on anatomical realism.
