ZDERCIUC Ion, Chisinau, Republic of Moldova
The work represents an abstract and vigorous exploration of the life-generating force - woman.
The artist adopts a geometric, almost cubist language. Instead of reproducing the classical roundness associated with the female body, he fragments the volume into sharply cut planes, sharp edges, and right angles. This approach suggests that fertility is not just “fragility,” but a tectonic force, a raw energy bursting from the stone.
Although abstract, the work offers clear visual clues that refer to the female body in the midst of its genesis.
In contrast to the angular rest of the sculpture, the circular elements - the breasts - become focal points. They represent perfection and fullness.
The sculpture is arranged horizontally, suggesting a connection with the earth. It is a position of receptive rest, but also of effort (birth). The choice of sandstone and the compact volume give the feeling of permanence. Fertility is seen as a foundation of human existence.
Zderciuc manages to extract a vital essence from a rigid block of stone. "Fertility" is not just a portrait of a physiological state, but an ode to womanhood. It is a work that "feels" heavy and stable, anchoring the viewer in the certainty of the perpetuation of life on earth through the woman's body.
