PLATON Iurie, Republic of Moldova
The work is a body reduced to its essence, almost a pure volume. This shifts the emphasis from the individual to the state: meditation does not belong to anyone in particular, but is a universal condition. The elongated, vertical form suggests the inner axis of being – the spine, the breath, the connection between the earth and thought.
It is not an outward movement, but a deepening in itself. The volume seems to gather, to gather. The surface is not smooth; the chisel marks remain visible. Meditation is not idealized as absolute peace, but as a process: a stillness gained through effort, through friction with matter and with the self. The green patina, given by time and environment, makes the sculpture seem almost vegetal, as if it were growing from the earth. It does not dominate the space, but listens to it.
Meditation here becomes a form of harmonization with the rhythm of nature. The soft curves may discreetly refer to a feminine body, but without explicit sensuality. Rather, it is about the receptive, inner, contemplative principle – the opposite of force or action. Overall, Meditation seems like a silent presence, a witness. It does not say, it does not explain, it does not demand. It just is.
