DAMIAN Mihai, Chisinau, Republic of Moldova
The Crucifixion of the Poet proposes a concentrated image of Eminescu's destiny, in which the human figure is caught in the severe geometry of the cross. It is not the external drama that dominates, but a heavy silence: the body appears fragmentary, as if the man were half covered by his own symbol, by the time that fixes him and transforms him into an emblem. The gesture of the hand, the only warm and lively accent, brings to the fore the vulnerability and humanity behind the myth. The cross thus becomes not only a sign of suffering, but also the axis of the intersection between the ideal and the real, between love and unfulfillment, between genius and loneliness. Made in sandstone, the work speaks of the creator's sacrifice, but also of the way in which the work preserves it: a body stopped in stone, a consciousness that remains in the light through the word.
