VÂRTOSU Valentin, Chisinau, Republic of Moldova
The subject of the work refers to a wordless narrative. The sculpture does not describe an animal, but the condition of one that exists but is not heard. The story is not spoken - it is read in form. The two massive blocks, resulting from the fracture as a result of falling from the sculptor's "table", seem to be in dialogue. Between them appears a central node - an egg - which is a point of union or tension.
It is the place where meaning is born, but remains caught between two forces: inside/outside, self/world. The stone's incisions, which are natural, seem like runes or primitive letters. They are not legible text, but traces of memory. The story is not intended for quick reading; it is a writing of time for time, not for hasty eyes. Despite the gravity of the stone, the title brings a touch of tenderness.
The artist does not accuse, does not shout. He tells a small, almost childish story about difference and silence. The Story of a Mute Duckling is a sculpture about the voice that is not heard, about the meaning that is not imposed. A deeply human work, which transforms silence into language and fragility into lasting form.
