DONOI Parascovia. Chisinau, Republic of Moldova
Initially, having a different conception, during the work the author reshaped the meaning of the sculpture. The artist had to simplify the composition, but complicate the meaning. According to the sculptor: "The gate signifies the passage between worlds, to other realms, to someone, to somewhere."
For the artist, but also for any mortal, the gate is entry/exit, beginning/end, beyond/here". In sculpture, passage is not just a physical opening, but an element of transition – that space in which you are no longer fully in the old place, but also not in the new one. However, the passage is not simple, because we do not all go, one after the other, in a crowd, but we enter one by one, each with his sins, for which we have to account before Providence.
So, the Gate of the Artist Donoi is a metaphor for the gap between two worlds, states, realities, situations, etc. The fact that the portal is cut from a massive block suggests that the passage is not easy; it is gained through effort, time, erosion, decision. The void is not absence, but meaning: it invites, calls, promises transformation.
A sandstone gate is not a fast, modern, functional gate, but one that seems to have been carved for the long haul. Hence an interpretation: the passage is not instantaneous; it is a process: of ripening, of healing, of maturing. The discreetly engraved inscriptions suggest that the passage is accompanied by word, testimony, prayer or reflection.
