The project Gates for the sustainable integration of the culture of the Middle Prut Valley into European tourist routes/ROMD00219 is funded by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT Romania-Moldova program and responds to the need for cross-border social development between Romania and the Republic of Moldova in the field of cultural and tourist heritage. The Middle Prut Valley area is characterized by a rich but underutilized heritage, with cultural and tourist objectives that require modernization, conservation and integrated promotion.

There is a clear opportunity to create synergies between local public authorities in Ungheni and Iași, cultural institutions and local communities, to develop common strategies for valorizing heritage and to integrate these objectives into European tourist routes.

The project "Gates for the sustainable integration of the culture of the Middle Prut Valley into European tourist routes"/ROMD00219 responds to the following existing challenges:

  • Lack of adequate infrastructure for the preservation of tangible and intangible heritage;
  • The need to increase the visibility and accessibility of cultural objectives in the Ungheni - Iași cross-border region;
  • The need to train personnel in the field of culture and involve the community in educational and cultural activities;
  • The need to strengthen sustainable cross-border partnerships between local authorities and cultural organizations.

Culture represents a living experience, essential for the sustainable development of communities, beyond the economic dimension. The project "Gates for the sustainable integration of the culture of the Middle Prut Valley into European tourist routes”/ROMD00219 starts from the need to valorize the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Middle Prut Valley through active community involvement, modernization of cultural infrastructure and strengthening cross-border cooperation. By organizing cultural events, thematic workshops, camps, exhibitions and conferences, the project contributes to preserving traditions, developing the skills of museum staff and increasing the attractiveness of museums, with the objective of attracting a minimum of 16,000 visitors. The integration of digital technologies, such as QR codes and video materials, will improve the cultural experience of visitors and access to information.

The project stimulates cross-border cooperation through a sustainable partnership and the development of a common strategy for promoting cultural heritage, facilitating the integration of the Middle Prut Valley into European tourist routes and supporting local economic development.

At the same time, the energy rehabilitation of the Ungheni Palace of Culture will have a positive impact on the environment, by reducing energy consumption, preserving the architectural heritage and improving the urban image. Thus, the project contributes to the sustainable cultural, social and economic development of the region, promoting common heritage and cross-border identity.
